Zachary Mayer is the Vice President of Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, a Glencore company. A professional mining engineer, he holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mining, both from Laurentian University.

Born and raised in Sudbury, Zach began his mining career over 25 years ago. He joined Falconbridge (now part of Glencore), where he held various engineering and operational roles at multiple sites across Northern Ontario, and Quebec, including Fraser Mine, Craig Mine, Kidd Creek Mine, and Matagami Mine.

In 2018, he was appointed Head of Technical Services for Glencore Canada’s Zinc operations, later assuming the role of General Manager at the Matagami Mine. During his tenure, two mining operations were honoured with the prestigious John T. Ryan National Safety Award from the Canadian Institute of Mining, recognizing their achievement of the lowest injury frequency among all metal mines in Canada.

From 2022 until his appointment as Vice President of Sudbury INO in April 2025, Zach led Glencore Zinc’s global operational excellence program, supporting numerous mines around the world in addressing safety and production challenges.

Previously, Zach was Chair of the Ultra-Deep Mining Network Industry Consultation Group (2014-2019) and the Executive Director of Timmins Chamber of Commerce (2015 to 2018).
