Sheldon Smith MES, P.Geo. is a Senior Hydrologist and Senior Principal at Stantec who has worked extensively with mining clients throughout North America and overseas in hydrological and water management projects. His hydrological expertise lies in open channel and pulse flow monitoring, modelling, water balance and management assessments and water quality analysis, modeling and interpretation, particularly in the fields of mining and aggregate resource development, waterpower, storm water management, floodplain assessment, in stream flow needs assessment, stream monitoring, natural channel design and erosion analysis. Sheldon has led or been a water resources technical lead in more than 40 environmental assessments and has worked on a variety of mining projects from scoping, PEA, PFS, FS and detailed engineering and permitting to operational studies, closure planning and closure plan amendments. Sheldon is a QP who has developed and executed baseline hydrology, hydrogeology and water quality studies for mine projects as well as environmental and operational water balance estimates, mine water management plans, environmental assessments, water supply and effluent assimilative capacity studies, mine waste disposal alternative multiple accounts assessments, tailings and polishing pond dam breach assessments, discharge infrastructure sizing, mine water permitting and monitoring plans.
