Jason Batise is the Executive Director of the Wabun Tribal Council, serving six First Nation communities in North Eastern Ontario. As a First Nations group, and in large part due to the efforts and the experience of the Wabun leadership, the member First Nations have established partnerships with industry and government that allow them to operate in a more self-sustaining manner. Wabun and Jason have led negotiations with over a dozen operating mines in Ontario’s busiest gold mining region. The resulting agreements have increased the First Nations capacity to manage their own affairs in a way that communities identify priorities, and invest resources to resolve issues most important to the First Nations. Over time, Wabun and its management team can claim nearly 2 billion dollars of direct and indirect own source revenue benefits to its member First Nations. Jason is a proud member of the Matachewan First Nation and resides in Timmins, where he raised three children. Jason looks forward to continued successes as he works toward a positive future for his two grandchildren.
